Katara Studios Unveils Exciting New Line-Up of Arab Storytelling

 

At the Red Sea International Film Festival, Katara Studios unveiled a captivating slate of new projects, signaling a bold vision for the future of Arab storytelling. Featuring diverse genres, talented casts, and innovative filmmaking, the line-up showcases Katara’s commitment to igniting creativity and fostering global connections.

 

Highlights from the New Line-Up

1. Sakhr

This biopic honors late Kuwaiti tech pioneer Mohammed Al-Sharekh, the visionary behind the world’s first Arabic-language operating system, Sakhr. The film delves into his groundbreaking contributions to technology and celebrates his enduring legacy.

2. Sari & Amira

Marking the debut feature of acclaimed Qatari filmmaker A.J. Al Thani (The Black Veil, Kashta), this fantasy epic is a heartwarming tale of love and resilience. Set in the desert of Wadi Sakheema, it follows bandits Sari and Amira as they face mythical beasts, marital challenges, and thrilling adventures in their quest for a legendary treasure. The cast includes Alex Uloom, Hala Al Turk, Abdelmohsen Al Nemr, and Adwa Fahad.

3. Sa3oud Wainah

This mystery thriller, heralded as Qatar’s first commercial feature film, explores the dark consequences of a magic trick gone wrong. Starring an all-Qatari cast led by Mishal Al Dosari, Abdulaziz Al Dorani, and Saad Al Naimi, the film represents a milestone for Qatari cinema.

4. Anne Everlasting

This inspiring documentary follows Anne Lorimor’s journey to reclaim her title as the oldest person to climb Mount Kilimanjaro at 89. Alongside her climb, the film explores her resilience, past struggles, and the mission of her foundation, Creating Exciting Futures.

Katara Studios has previously produced notable projects like the sci-fi series Medinah for Starzplay, Farsi-language feature film Orca, and The Pact for The Roku Channel. The studio also created the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 ceremonies and The Lost Chapter of Kelileh wa Demneh for the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023.
